Day of Green

Hello people,

I've seen alot of green today, that must mean that today is Dragon Day.  The day where we pay our respects to the great winged green serpents who rule the sky, and our nightmares.  So in order to appease our emerald-overlords I thought I would pot some of the concepts for my new Dragon Rig I'm working on, for now designing.

CHECK IT

If you guys want to chime in on design, do so.  I'm finalizing my design and character sheets this coming week so I can finally start on the thing.

End of the January Draw Challenge, beginning of the 2012 Draw Challenge!

Hey peeps,

So, here's the last bits of my January draw challenge I finished the other day.

Day 18:  Memory #3 - GETTING A JOB!

Half sketch / Half style.  I've been working with a rough line style, looks alllmost finished, but has the posh of a finished line.  Not even close to nailing it here, but I'm working on it.  This is about my first time out on trial for my job.  Got on a train to D.C. and as soon as I got there at 2pm, I worked straight through to 2pm the following day... this is how I felt.

This job is awesome, but you'd have to be on 10 kinds of stimulants not to get worn down after the hours we pull.

Day 19: Memory #2 - Trip To LA

Back in January, I was fortunate enough to get selected to go on trip to LA with my fellow animators at Columbia College.  We got to tour a lot of good studios, and when I got DreamWorks something happened I never though would... I got to actually HOLD AND LOOK THROUGH a Nickelodeon Blimp award!!!!  For this went out I was just playing around, and did a pseudo-cut-out thing.  And by that I just tried to make different sloppy layers stand out.

Be jealous.

Day 20: Memory #1 - Haven (Tainted)

This is my number one memory, because honestly it was difficult trying to think of something I did BESIDES Haven in 2011.  Haven spawned from an idea I came up with while listening to the song Tainted by Celldweller the summer before senior year.  I didn't think it would take in the suggestion rounds, but it did and it became my entire classes senior film.  Pretty Awesome.  I think this one is getting closer to what I want my style to be.   Rough-er lines, and a rough-ish paint style inside those lines.  I also took off any softness in the bush and just used a plain circular brush with varying opacity, helped get the strokes noticeable yet looking good.  Let me know what you think.  I'm still practicing my drafting though, because i want to get away from an anime styling or simple shape.  I want more detail and flair.  Please guys I want me some feedback!!!

I always like longer red hair on Kit, and I'll probably to alot more of this character as I progress.

So that's the end of the January draw challenge.  I'm still going to create an image for each day this year, but I'm not going to be posting all of them.  I'll primarily post things I personally like, or things that I want feedback on.  This entire year of drawing and sculpting (yes I just installed the trial of Zbrush so it has begun!!!) is to become better at those things.  And I really can't do that without you guys, so for any post on here I STRONGLY encourage you to critique my work.  Anything aside from "This sucks lol" will be helpful, so don't be worried about sounding too harsh.

Thank you all!

Weeks worth of work.

Hey dudes and dudettes,

No posts in a while, but my cintiq has still been busy!  So, without further delay here is what I've been working on.

Day 11: Show #5 - How The Universe Works

Watched mroe space documentaries than I count in 2011, and this one is by far the best I've seen.

Day 12: Show #4 - Being Human (U.S.)

Didn't start watching this til late 2011, but it re-kindled my love for the supernatural.  I also spent the most time working on this one, always loves vampire, werewolves and the like.  So what I intended to be just a sketch turned into a full-blown painting, let me know what you think!

Day 13: Show #3 - How I Met Your Mother

Another late show of 2011 for me.  I watched the entire series in a matter of weeks, and my favorite character by far is Barney Stinson.

Day 14: Show #2 - Dexter

One of my long-time favorites did not disappoint like I thought it would this season.  The ending is just unfair though...

Day 15: Show #1 - Doctor Who

This show took up more of my time than I care to admit, but I would rewatch it all again in a heartbeat.  Easily my #1 obsession of 2011.

Day 16: Memory #5 - Lasik

Last year I finally got Lasik surgery on my eyes.  Most people are weirded out by it, but easily best decision I've made.

Day 17: Memory #4 - Buying MY first car

2011 was finally the year where I bought my own car.  But it's also the year I spent the most on a single purchase -_-

That's been the last week in catch up.  If you would like to see the posts more often as I make the pieces let me know, or if you would rather know the motivation for a piece, or the process of making it let me know.  The whole posting thing is more for others to see what I'm doing so let me help ya!

Later all!

Day 10: Game #1 - Star Wars: The Old Republic

Why, hello there.

You proooooobably have heard me talk about SWTOR at some point.  Arguably my favorite game of the year. I have been itching for an MMO and its the most fun I've had playing one in YEARS.  So heres a rough representation of my character in the game.  I just got my cintiq today, so I've been playing around with it during this painting.  I expect my future illustrations to benefit from this beauty!

Days 7,8,9: Ganes - Minecraft, Mortal Kombat, and Portal

Hey guys,

Here are my past couple days of the draw challenge.  A full Sketch of Day 6 - Modern Warfare 3 was made, but it got erased : (  I'm going to count it for the draw challenge since it got made, but I'm going to re-do it sometime for my full 366 drawings.

Day 07: Game #4 - Minecraft

Day 08: Game #3 - Mortal Kombat

Day 09: Game #2 - Portal 2

Three different days, three different styles.  I was going to call the Ermac sketch done, but I think I now want to take it a step or two further this week to play with my Cintiq, which is supposed to get here tomorrow!!!

Day 05: Movie #1 - Troll Hunter

Day 04: Movie #2 - Rio

Bon dia,

Today is my #2 favorite movie of 2011.  At first i wasn't excited for Rio, BlueSky hadn't done much besides Ice Age, which I only sorta liked.  Yet, what I saw blue me away (getit?).  So here is my second favorite movie and favorite animated film, Rio!!!

Also!  You might notice that I'm trying to make these drawings paintings.  I want to improve my digital painting, so I want to pump out as much as i can to get a feel for it.  AND because of all this I ordered my very own 12WX Cintiq!  It will get here next week, and I can't wait to see if I can produce better work with it!!!

Day 03: Movie #3 - Super 8

Hey,

Movie #3 is Super 8.  It was one of the few movies I saw in theaters that was animated or super-hero related.  Real simple, just a boy looking at a shadowy figure, just like 87% of the movie.

Day 02: Movie #4 - Thor

Howdy,

For my 4th movie of 2011 I chose Thor.  I haven't seen a whole lot of movies that came out this past year, but I did see almost all of the super hero movies.  Thor was probably my favorite, since I didn't know much about the character and really dug the mixing of old mythology and the current realism trend.  However I don't really enjoy doing fan art per se, so I drew Thor chibi instead of all muscley.

Today it is just a sketch, but I bring you "The Son of Thunder"

New Year, New Plans

Hey everyone!

Long time no see.  I was disappointed in myself, that I didn't do much art outside of what was required for both school and work.  I haven't been doing anything for my own growth, or for my own fun.  So I've decided on a little resolution for myself, I want to make 365 images in the year 2012, with at least seven of them a week.  For this first month I will be doing my first Draw Challenge hosted by Trevor.

So in January I will be drawing my top 5 movies, games, shows, and moments of 2011.  I don't what I'll be using for all of those, but we'll find out once it comes time!

For my No.5 film I chose Kung Fu Panda 2.  I didn't see many new movies in 2011, but I remember going to the theater with all my animation buddies and enjoying the crud out of it.  So here's my little take on the normally cute Kung Fu Panda!

My next one should be up later tonight also, so stay tuned!!!
